The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People

Stephen R. Covey

Habit 1: Be Proactive

"Habit 1 is the key to unlocking all the other habits and that's why it comes first. It says, "I am the captain of my life. I can choose my attitude. I'm responsible for my own happiness or unhappiness. I am in the driver's seat of my destiny, not just a passenger."

Being proactive means thinking and acting ahead of time. Not only is this a good method to avoid doing more work in the future. Also to prevent future disasters. In order to be proactive, you need to plan out everything. For example things you have to do or places you need to attend. As well as potential problems you may faced in the future. You can eliminate your nonessary plans and put more important plans. Like studying for a test or getting your homework done instead of going out with friend or a party. If You are proactive, you make things happen, instead of waiting for them to happen to you.

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
"Control your own destiny or someone else will." (Jack Welch)
"When you know where you intend to end up, you know where you are now." (Covey)

Begin with the end in mind means to knowing that you will finish that goal. Also means to begin each day or tasks with a clear destination. It about learning what values are important in your life and living accordingly. It starts off with an idea then you act or create  that goal. For example, you think and create in idea about building a house. Then in reality you build your goal which was a house.

Habit 3: Put First Things First
"Organize and execute around priorities."

Everyday with do tasks we do or do not enjoy doing. Sometimes some of these tasks are so important that we have to prioritize these boring tasks and leave the fun tasks for later. When we dont prioritize and complete the important tasks, we wont have time to do the fun things we would like to do. You get a lot done. You are fairly labor-saving. We spend our time in certain ways because we choose to. There is nothing we do without choosing, although our choices are not always smart. We have the choice to work or not to work, to write that report or not.

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood
"Diagnose before you prescribe."

We should take time to deeply understand the problem that we face everyday. It shows us how we can work collaborately in order to solve situation. Be willing to be open minded. First you have to listen, then you have to learn, from there you get to understand it. In communtion, listen actively before you talk. It all about understanding the other person – what they want, need and aspire to as well as what their motivations and mindset are. Empathic listening gives the other person an emotional boost they start feeling better about themselves so feel better about you and begin to open up more; you’ve opened them up so you can problem solve

Habit 6:Synergize
"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts (1+1=3)"

Habit 7: Sharpen the saw
The Four Dimensions of Self-Renewal: Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Social/Emotional

It means to take care of yourself emotinal, physically, and spiritualy. It also means know how to balance all of those things into your life. Aswell as consistly improving the use of the other habits. For example you need to take care of your body by exercising, getting, eating healthy, etc. You need to take care of your brain by learning. Taking care of your heart by creating friendships and enjoy life. Finally taking care of your soul by mediating and praying.
